Industry: Petrochemical
Description of Equipment: Ethylene cracking furnace, radiant sidewall burner blocks
Problem: Sever erosion of fireface with ceramic fiber burner blocks had detrimental effects on furnace efficiency, maintenance costs and unit productivity.
Solution: Replaced fiberlite burner blocks with Thermbond Composite blocks.
Product Being Replaced: Fiberlite burner blocks (convoluted ceramic fiber blanket)
Savings Using Thermbond: Eliminated surface erosion due to Thermbond fireface; improved furnace efficiency with consistent flame pattern and radiant heat reflected back to furnace tubes; minimized furnace downtime and reduced maintenance costs by providing superior service life of burner tile. Customer is extremely with performance of Thermbond Composite construction, and continues to specify for burner tile and peep door surround applications.
Products Applied: Thermbond Composite Burner Blocks
Method of Installation: Refractory contractor installed blocks from inside the furnace.
Scope of Work: Radiant furnace block temperature at 2100F, with flame lick temperatures exposed on Thermbond Composite burner tile up to 2600F. 144 Thermbond Composite blocks installed in one complete furnace
Installation Date: August 2001
Follow Up: Expect two complete furnaces lined with Thermbond Composite burner blocks in 2006.
