Refining and Petrochem Testimonials

"We have installed over 4 pallets of Formula 6P to repair burner tile and boiler repairs in a couple of refineries. We also been pouring burner tile with your 6B and patching burner throats in a SRU with 18BL.  We normally send 6 bags of 6 P when we go on jobs now.  Material is doing good."

-Contractor in the Gulf Coast-

"I have been specifying and engineering Thermbond installations since 1996 for many different applications. The various Thermbond formulations are very unique and well suited for the refinery industry. They can be the refractory material of choice in quite a number of installations were time or longevity of service is critical. I am happy to spread the word.”

-Refinery in Southern California-

"We have used Thermbond refractory quite extensively for a number of years mostly in our Sulfur Recovery Units within the furnaces.  The furnaces that we run are approximately 17 feet in diameter and about 100 feet long and run in excess of 2100F.  Our furnaces are lined with two types of brick:  1) Insulating Fire Brick (IFB) - which keeps the heat inside the furnace and 2) Hard-faced Brick (UFALA) - which protects the IFB and furnace shell from the acid in the furnace. The cases where we have utilized Thermbond were when we have seen considerable damage on the furnace brick, and we either did not have brick available, time available to replace brick, or needed a quick start-up of the unit.  The Thermbond refractory provided the quick application, high temperature capabilities, chemical resistant properties, and quick curing capabilities that allowed us to have a quick turnaround time on our damaged furnaces."

-Plant Manager, Olney, Texas-

"Thermbond has really helped when we want to startup quickly.  It typically takes about an entire day out of the dry-out procedure.  Depending on the unit, an extra day of downtime could be very costly.  For instance, when we brought down our DHT-K recently, the unit warm-up was 100F/hour.  However, if we had made repairs with conventional refractory, the warmup rate would be limited to 50F/hour plus hold times."

-Reliability Engineer, Gulf Coast-

"We were discussing the Burner cans with the Formula 6-L linings, my clients have increased their number of units due to the fact they are getting a more prolonged life now than with conventional castable. We also use Formula 6-P when we have a boiler burner repair where the client has a short turnaround time frame to get back on line and running. We can patch the burner and give it back to the client with no prolonged cure out time. Thanks."

-General Manager, Gulf Coast-

"The Formula 6P repair is holding up fine.  We saved 8 to 12 hours on the start-up of the unit by not having to cure the refractory.  We are installing Formula 6P in April for a boiler repair."

-Maintenance Manager, Gulf Coast-

"Thermbond Formula 403G and Formula 18G was installed in a boiler that had to be back in service in two days.  The call went out to Stellar on the weekend and the material was delivered on time.  Because of eliminating dry out we finished the job on time.  We will look for other areas to use Thermbond."

-Mechanical Engineer, Gulf Coast-

"I have used Thermbond successfully in TLE's and different applications where conventional refractories were failing. Thermbond has performed as promised, and I will continue to use Thermbond in the future."

-Heater Specialist, Gulf Coast-

"We have successfully used Thermbond Formula 6B for ethylene cracking furnace burner tile for over 15 years. A great improvement in tile life was a very positive result... We have seen very good results with Formula 12L in our FCCU cracking risers, flue gas line downstream of our quench water sprays, tertiary separator inlet plenum, and tertiary separator cyclones since 2003.... We appreciate all the guidance and technical help you have given us over the years to help us improve performance in our facility.  We plan to include Thermbond products on our approved refractory materials list for a long time to come."

-Engineering Specialist, Sweeny, Texas-

"We have been making quality precast shapes using Thermbond refractory since 1996.  Applications have been primarily in the refining/petrochem and power industry.  Our clients have been extremely pleased with the long term performance of the refractory, and ICSC's ability to deliver precast shapes in a short period of time.  This is very important during unexpected outages or tight turnaround schedules.  The quick setting advantage of Thermbond and no need for prefiring allows us to satisfy the needs of our clients."

-ICSC, Prairieville, Louisiana-

"We have successfully installed Thermbond products in many areas of our Ethylene furnaces since 2001. We have replaced standard convectional water based refractory with an exothermic Thermbond. We are very pleased with its unique benefits, including cure out, which we usually base on a standard heat-up procedure, we have used a variety of Thermbond materials with the ability to withstand thermal cycling better than previous used convectional refractory. Every Plant has their own specific needs and Stellar personnel have been very

instrumental in assisting us with the proper materials. Note the following examples:

1) Thermbond Formula 6L has provided great service in our TLE's transition nose cones and radiant bullnoses.

2) Formula 6P is used extensively during furnace shutdowns for "patch" repairs on burner tiles, lintels and IFB's.

3) Our need for an improved insulator has generated using Formula 16 to replace lintels and other areas requiring their specific application.

Thermbond has eliminated the need to prefire or wait on a lengthy air set before putting our units into service. We will continue to use Thermbond refractory to improve our furnaces reliability. Our inspection specialist/consultant has also been a factor to bring innovations and cost saving to our site. Monitoring and documentation of repairs have been an asset to our goal for more production time.
