Another Stellar Materials Workshop Smashing Success!

Stellar Materials completed its Thermbond End-user Workshop at its manufacturing facility in Whitmore Lake, Michigan on June 16, 2010.
The Workshop was a great success with 21 companies from 11 different countries in attendance.
The workshop covered various aspects of refractory technology, industrial applications, installation methods and much more.
Outside of the classroom, attendees and Stellar team members experienced beautiful Ann Arbor together and bonded at the closing banquet dinner.
The Workshop ended with a lot of laughter, good conversation and a little friendly competition in the form of a refractory challenge quiz presented by our VP of Worldwide Sales, Tom Atkins following our banquet dinner.
Overall the Workshop was a huge success and feedback from attendees has been extremely positive.
Stellar Materials thanks all who participated and contributed to this very successful Workshop.

Testimonial from a Customer in the Aluminum Industry:
"We got in contact with Thermbond products by the representatives of your European Headquarters.
The advantages of these products convinced us. We are using Formula Products and Phoscrete Hotfloor in our three melting furnaces with a good performance for three years now.
We learned to 'Think Thermbond" and we thank you for your valuable support."

2010 NPRA Reliability and Maintenance Conference |
Stellar Materials has exhibited at the NPRA Reliability and Maintenance Conference for the last three years. This year was the most successful by far.
The 3-day program included keynote addresses, technical and management presentations, discussion groups, structured question and answer sessions, and an exhibition of products and services. Presentations focus on improving reliability in the refining and petrochemical industry, covering topics such as effective maintenance organizations, productivity, equipment reliability, health and safety, employee training, environmental control, predictive/preventive maintenance, maintenance and engineering standards, inspection, procurement, and innovative reliability technology.
The conference was held in San Antonio Texas, a great location for the Refining and Petrochemical Industry.
Ted Hagberg, Director Business Development and Jamie Cambetta, Gulf Coast Sales Manager were happy to report back that attendance this year was extremely impressive. There was a significant presence of international attendees from South America, Latin America and The Middle East.
In addition to the extraordinary traffic, the general optimism in terms of growth in the market was substantial. Many attendees expressed great excitement for anticipated expansions and revamps.
Attendees from around the world shared their positive Thermbond experiences with Ted and Jamie. Many other attendees were familiar with the benefits of Thermbond and wanted to learn more.
The attendee turnout, opportunities uncovered, and customer networking that took place during NPRA make attending next year’s conference an easy decision.
Come and see us in at the FCCU Cat Cracker Seminar August 24-25 in Houston Texas.
Testimonial from a Casting Coordinator in the Aluminum Industry:
"Thermbond Formula 2104L was installed as a repair to the most severe wear furnace hearth. Refractory repairs to this hearth area have been very unsatisfactory in the past. Formula 2104L was installed and has provided "amazing" ability to withstand the abrasion and mechanical abuse that no other refractory has been able to provide."

Testimonial from a customer in the aluminum industry:
"Thermbond’s use at this facility has grown over the past 10 years. We first used Thermbond for small emergency repairs and now used it for full maintenance applications. This plant is part of a large automotive production system. We must perform our melting equipment maintenance in a single 10 - 14 day shut down period annually. The repairs must last at least to the following year’s outage. This is critical. Thermbond has given us the confidence that it will perform where others have failed in the past."

Application Report
Municipal Incinerator Patch Application in Germany
Industry: Municipal Waste Incineration
Description of Equipment: Municipal waste is burned as a method for disposal and a waste heat boiler generates electricity.

Applying Formula 26-P on studded tubes |
Formula 26-P installed on tubes |
Formula 26-P after 12 months |
Product Being Replaced: Conventional phosphate bonded silicon carbide patch material.
Savings Using Thermbond: Thermbond Formula 26-P heats up rapidly and provides good thermal conductivity and abrasion resistance.
Products Applied: 90 units of Thermbond Formula 26-P
Method of Installation: Hand-packed
Equipment Used: Hobart-Mixer and rubber glove
Scope of Work: Hand packed Thermbond Formula 26-P on finned tubes between anchor studs at a 20mm thickness. Consistent installation thickness is critical to maximize proper thermal heat transfer. Installation time took about 2.5 hours per square meter with 3 workmen.
Installation Date: May 2010
Follow Up: Expected lifetime is 12 months which is the next planned shutdown. Tubes patched with Thermbond Formula 26-P in 2009 show no wear after 12 months (see above photo).
