Stellar Materials secured a significant order for Phoscrete Concretes for a new Aluminium plant in the U.A.E. The customer purchased Phoscrete Concrete for its fast installation, high strengths, and bonding and repair capabilities.
Phoscrete Formula 602-L was installed in the floor in the saw casting area of the plant. The installation for this new floor required 3,675 units of Phoscrete 602-L to be cast in 2 M x 1.OM panels.
With eleven new furnaces, and a very successful first installation additional orders for Phoscrete Concretes and Thermbond Refractories are expected in the near future.
Look for a follow up on this installation in future bulletins.
Questions or comments regarding this installation, please contacts Stellar’ s Sales Manager for the Middle East, PM Sundaram at pm.sundaram@thermbond.com

Testimonial from a production manager in the aluminum industry:
I have used Thermbond for seven years in my melting and casting furnaces. It is a great material for repairs because it bonds so well to the existing refractory and can be heated up quickly to get my furnaces back in service. I have used Thermbond in troughs where the non-wetting characteristics made for easy maintenance. I have used it in floors, upper and lower walls where time and time again it has saved money by providing a fast turn around and superior service life.

Stellar Spotlight:
U-ZONE MATERIAL CO., LTD. |
U-Zone has been a Strategic Partner with Stellar Materials since 2007. “It is amazing to look back on how our relationship has grown in such a short amount of time”, recollects Stellar’s Vice President of Sales, Tom Atkins. “What began as an internet inquiry for an MSDS has turned into a very important relationship for both companies. I am most impressed with how quickly U-Zone understood what their company could do with Thermbond Refractories for industrial customers in Asia.”
Principals of U-Zone, Tony Ho and Jimmy Liu, recognized early on what tremendous value the combination of Thermbond’s unique features and U-Zone’s outstanding service could deliver to the Taiwanese and South-East Asian industrial market. U-Zone’s top customer priority is solving refractory problems that result in lost production. U-Zone specializes in recommending only the most suitable high quality materials and installation technology to their customers. U-Zone’s initial focus for Thermbond was in the metals industry but has quickly expanded to include HPI and Power.
Tony and Jimmy attribute their continued success to providing “value” solutions and developing close and long-term harmonious relationships with their customers. “Thermbond Refractories offer our customers a new innovative technology that is unlike any other refractory they use. We can finally solve the refractory problems that hinder our customer’s production. Our customers recognize the value of Thermbond Refractories, as do we!” says Tony Ho of U-Zone Materials.
Tony and Jimmy are veterans of two Stellar Materials Workshops and hope to attend the June 2010 workshop with some of their customers. When asked about working with U-Zone, Tom Atkins replied, “The entire U-Zone team is a pleasure to work with. Their professionalism, attention to detail, and focus on delivering solutions to their customers, makes them the ideal Strategic Partner for Stellar Materials. We are very grateful they chose to partner with us.”
Testimonial from a Customer in the Petrochemical Industry, in the Texas:
"We have successfully installed Thermbond products in many areas of our Ethylene furnaces since 2001.We are very pleased with its unique benefits, including cure out, which we usually base on a standard heat-up procedure, we have used a variety of Thermbond materials with the ability to withstand thermal cycling better than previous used conventional refractory."

Testimonial from a Customer in the Aluminum Industry:
"Thermbond’s use at this facility has grown over the past 10 years. We first used Thermbond for small emergency repairs and now use it for full maintenance applications. This plant is part of a large automotive production system. We must perform our melting equipment maintenance in a single 10 - 14 day shut down period annually. The repairs must last at least to the following year’s outage. This is critical. Thermbond has given us the confidence that it will perform where others have failed in the past."

Application Report
Aluminum Transfer Ladle
Industry: Aluminum
Description of Equipment: Transfer ladle 40½” in diameter and 41” tall, 2,000 pound ladle capacity.
Problem: Initial refractory lining was inefficient and the heat loss caused the metal to freeze in the ladle.
Solution: Replace the ladle lining with Thermbond Formula 2102 insulating castable.
Product Being Replaced: Conventional castable refractory.
Savings Using Thermbond: Improve the thermal efficiency of the ladle without reducing ladle capacity, reduce weight of the ladle and increase the life of the ladle refractory.
Products Applied: Thermbond Formula 2102
Method of Installation: Casting
Equipment Used: Horizontal paddle mixer, pencil vibrator and trowels.
Scope of Work: Completely reline a 40½” diameter transfer ladle using Thermbond Formula 2102 castable insulating refractory. Prior to casting the refractory, the inside diameter of the steel ladle was lined with ¼” thick ceramic fiber paper. After casting the floor of the ladle, a collapsible metal insert was used to form the refractory walls in the ladle. Approximately one hour after casting the walls, the metal insert was collapsed and removed. The ladle was pre-heated to 1100 degrees F for several hours to remove any chemical moisture and then placed into service.
Installation Date: Jan 14, 2009
Follow Up: November 2009, the ladle lined with Thermbond 2102 is still in operation and shows very little wear with the additional benefit of remaining clean and reducing heat loss.
