Testimonial from a Maintenance Manager in Southern California:

"I have used Thermbond for seven years in my melting and casting furnaces.  It is a great material for repairs because it bonds so well to the existing refractory and can be heated up quickly to get my furnaces back in service.  I have used Thermbond in troughs where the non-wetting characteristics made for easy maintenance.  I have used it in floors, upper and lower walls where time and time again it has saved money by providing a fast turn around and superior service life.”

Testimonial from a plant manager in the Aluminum Industry:

"We have been utilizing Thermbond Refractories in our furnaces for over three years now with great success. Thermbond has saved us in the scope of repair work due to its unique bonding to existing refractory and in down time to due to Thermbond's rapid heat up capabilities."

Welcome to the World, Anthony Douglas Saul!

Please join us in congratulating Stellar Materials' Maintenance Assistant, Robert Saul and his wife on the birth of their new baby boy.

Anthony Douglas Saul was born on December 25, 2009 at 12:09 am. He entered the world at 8 lbs 3 oz and 21.25 inches long.

Testimonial from a Customer in the Power Generation Industry, in Southern California:

"We like the fact that Thermbond does not need any outside heat source to attain good strengths.  We would normally have to completely replace the top 2 to 3 feet of the ash hopper in each unit every other year.  When we switched to Thermbond in most cases we only needed to flash over the top 2 to 3 feet.  This has saved us a lot of time and money by not having to tear out and replace the refractory over and over again."

    The Bucket Gripper™
    Makes Mixing

    Thermbond
    Easy and Safe!

Stellar Materials is pleased to introduce “The Bucket Gripper™” - a useful tool that enables our users to easily mix a variety of partial and single units of Thermbond and Phoscrete using a standard five or six gallon bucket.

A common issue among our customers when mixing with a heavy duty drill is that the bucket has a tendency to spin from the force of the drill mixing the material. This can cause injury to the person mixing, and also slows down the mixing process.  Previously, a second worker was required to hold the bucket in place and to prevent it from spinning.

Thanks to The Bucket Gripper™, all of these problems are solved. As you can clearly see in the picture above, this tool firmly holds the bucket in place by simply stepping on it, allowing a single person to mix the material safely and easily.

The Bucket Gripper™ can be used to mix full units with many Thermbond and Phoscrete Castable and Trowelable mixes. Partial units of other Thermbond products can be mixed if proper care is taken to measure liquid and dry components correctly.

The Instructions for use of the Bucket Gripper are very simple:

    1.     Place bucket into the hole in the Bucket Gripper.

    2.     Pull the Bucket Gripper up and attach the hook to the bucket

    3.     Place proper amount of liquid activator in bucket

    4.     Pour proper amount of dry material into bucket

    5.     Place your foot on Bcuket Gripper, start the hand mixer.

For information on where to purchase this tool, please contact your Stellar account representative.

Testimonial from a Casting Coordinator in the Aluminum Industry:

"Thermbond Formula 2104-L was installed as a repair to the most severe wear furnace hearth. Refractory repairs to this hearth area have been very unsatisfactory in the past.  Formula 2104-L was installed and has provided amazing ability to withstand the abrasion and mechanical abuse that no other refractory has been able to provide."

    Application Report

    Reactor Reline

    Industry: Refinery (Petro Chemical)

Description of Equipment: Reformer Desulfunizer Reactors (3 units)

Problem: Time! Required units to be back online in four days.

Solution:  Complete the full repair in bottom of each unit using Formula 18-BL. This refractory was chosen because of the following properties; high alumina content required, fast dry-out and heat up capabilities, and high strengths at low operating temperatures.

Product Being Replaced:  Complete new reline

Savings Using Thermbond: Job completed two days earlier than expected due to Thermbond’s ability to cure rapidly and no need for firing-in.

    Products Applied: Formula 18-BL

    Method of Installation: Hand packed

Equipment Used: Horizontal paddle mixer, wooden screed

Scope of Work:  Hand packed refractory in the bottom of three reactors. Mixed two units of Formula 18-BL at a time in mixer, placed material into buckets, and lifted into reactor through bottom opening. One worker then hand packed material to desired thickness and levelied off with a wooden screed. The outside temperature during the process was from 70°F (21°C) at nights to 86°F (30°C) during the days.

Comment: (Made by an outside inspection company) " I never thought the job would be completed so quickly and ready for start up early."

    Installation Date:  September 2009

    Follow Up: Next planned outage
