  • Application Report:  Preheating Furnace Repair of Galvanizing Factory

  •

Testimonial from an engineering manager at a west coast refinery:

"I have been specifying and engineering Thermbond installations since 1996 for many different applications. The various Thermbond formulations are very unique and well suited for the refinery industry. They can be the refractory material of choice in quite a number of installations where time or longevity of service is critical. I am happy to spread the word."

Stellar Spotlight: Strategic Partner, High Temperature Industrial Products

This month’s Stellar Spotlight shines on one of Stellar Materials' Strategic Partners, High Temperature Industrial Products HTIP, S. DE R.L. DE C.V., located in Apodaca, a suburb of Monterrey, Mexico.

High Temp Industrial Products Company is a wholly owned subsidiary of Pyrotek Incorporated, an international organization specializing in the development, manufacture, and sale of high temperature equipment and materials for industrial applications, with a particular emphasis on the aluminum industry. High Temperature Industrial Products began their partnership with Stellar Materials in 2004.

HTIP helped establish Thermbond in Mexico’s aluminum market as a product that delivers value and performance to their customers. HTIP bases their success on vigorous interaction with customers to completely understand their challenges, along with the continuing education of their sales team on the proper use, development, and applications of Thermbond for the aluminum industry.

HTIP’s sales force, coupled with the unique Thermbond product line, continue to increase market share even through this down economy.

William O’Connell, Stellar Materials’ Sales Director for Mexico, Caribbean, and Latin America, works closely with HTIP to achieve maximum results in the market place. “HTIP’s unique place in the aluminium industry, coupled with the other products they represent and promote and the hands-on attitude of their sales engineers is the key to the incredible success of Thermbond in this industrial market.  Thermbond sales have seen incredible growth as a premier ‘solution oriented’ material in time-critical maintenance repairs and an overall increase in service life” says William O’Connell.

We are appreciative of the efforts and dedication that High Temp Industrial Products puts forth in presenting Thermbond solutions to their customers throughout the Mexican foundry markets.

Testimonial from a customer in the aluminum industry in Norway:

"We have successfully used Thermbond products for different applications for the last 7 years. Thermbond has been used in aluminium smelters as well as in different parts in ammonia plants worldwide. The reason for choosing Thermbond is normally the benefits of fast heat up after installation."

Congratulations to Jeff Pchola on his Promotion!

    Jeff Pchola
    Jeff Pchola, Sales Director-
    Aluminum Industry

Stellar Materials is pleased to announce that Jeff Pchola has accepted the additional role and responsibilities of coordinating and leading the company's continued growth in the aluminum industry. Effective immediately, Jeff is Sales Director- Aluminum Industry for Stellar Materials.

In this role Jeff will enhance and further develop our company's strategy for increasing our presence in the aluminum industry.

Jeff maintains direct sales responsibility for his southeastern states territory that is predominately aluminum.

Prior to Jeff's employment with Stellar Materials he worked as a Regional Sales Manager providing molten metal processing equipment to the Aluminum Industry. His years of experience and expertise in the Aluminum Industry are sure to take him far in this new position.

"I appreciate the opportunity to take on more responsibility and I look forward to the challenges my new role will bring" says Sales Director, Aluminum Industry, Jeff Pchola.

Please join us in congratulating Jeff on his new role with Stellar Materials.

Testimonial from a Customer in the Power Generation Industry, in Southern California:

"We like the fact that Thermbond does not need any outside heat source to attain good strengths.  We would normally have to completely replace the top 2 to 3 feet of the ash hopper in each unit every other year.  When we switched to Thermbond in most cases we only needed to flash over the top 2 to 3 feet.  This has saved us a lot of time and money by not having to tear out and replace the refractory over and over again."

    Happy New Year!

As this year comes to an end, we take this moment to wish you and yours, a very Happy 2010! Best Wishes for a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year.

We look forward to another successful year together. With such good friends by our side, this year promises to be the best yet!

May your year be filled with much love, happiness and success!

    HAPPY NEW YEAR!

    The Stellar Materials Family

Testimonial from a Customer in the Aluminum Industry:

"Thermbond’s use at this facility has grown over the past 10 years. We first used Thermbond for small emergency repairs and now used it for full maintenance applications. This plant is part of a large automotive production system. We must perform our melting equipment maintenance in a single 10 - 14 day shut down period annually. The repairs must last at least to the following year’s outage. This is critical. Thermbond has given us the confidence that it will perform where others have failed in the past."

    Application Report

    Industry: Continuous Steel Strip Galvanizing

    Description of Equipment: Preheating Furnace

Problem: The customer found damage in the high temperature section of the preheating furnace. The burners, and parts of the sidewall, were cracking and the surface was brittle due to heavy thermal shock. Carbon and iron oxide had penetrated and eroded the floor below the metal heating tube. The customer had very limited time to make the refractory repairs and bring the equipment back into production.

    Damaged burner tiles and sidewall
    Damaged floor blow heating tube

    Ram Thermbond Formula 15-R
    Burner repair finished

Floor repair finished The preheating furnace

Product Replaced: Conventional low cement castable refractory and firebricks

Advantages Using Thermbond: Reduced Down Time. The fast setting and no curing helped to reduce the installation time dramatically. Additionally, Thermbond fires in much faster than conventional refractories allowing the furnace to return to production much sooner.

Product Applied: Thermbond Formula 15-R, Formula 6-L and Thermbrake 403

Method of Installation: Ramming, Casting and Patching.

Equipment Used: Hand held mortar mixer, air hammer, air pencil vibrators and assorted hand tools

Scope of Work: Chip and clean the damaged burner tiles and sidewall. Wrap cardboard around the wooden form of the burner. Mix materials with hand held mortar mixer. Ram Formula 15-R into the burner throat. Seal cracks and get a better finished surface with a coating of Formula 6-P. Chip and clean the damaged brick and remove all the surface carbon. Cast 30mm of Thermbrake 403 to replace insulating bricks removed. Two hours later, when the Thermbrake 403 had completed its exothermic reaction and cooled down, cast 60mm of Formula 6-L on top of the Thermbrake 403.

Four hours after the Formula 6-L had been placed, the customer restarted the furnace.

    Installation Date:  November 2009

Future Opportunities: Customer will consider Thermbond for additional applications in the reheat furnace after the initial repair has been in service for several months.

Follow Up: Monthly visits to monitor the results and evaluate other applications.

A special thanks to our Strategic Partner in Tawain, U-Zone Materials, for the fine report.
